Great piece, but one major disagreement: Maddow. I stopped watching in the Trump years because it felt like she was using all of her narrative skills in search of some Rube Goldberg- device that - if executed perfectly in 12 East steps - would boot Trump from office. It seemed sort of sad and beneath her and I always felt like she was one day away from getting our Glenn Beck’s white board.

That's fair. The comparison to Beck's chalk board is apt too but whereas Beck would just throw things up there with nothing in common and say "See it all fits!" Maddow weaves facts in with the narrative. When it was on, it was EXCELLENT storytelling, but often it was as you suggested, some "Rube Goldberg" like model going "and then if...." Still, what she does isn't easy and she makes it look that way, which is why I graded her upward.

I’m curious as to your thoughts on NewsNation

I just checked the Media Bias Chart and NewsNation is placed on the line dead center. That's promising, but I'm not sure if its because they genuinely are moderate in their analysis or because they try and have it both ways.

I watch the Dan Abrams show on NewsNation. I’m an attorney and it is a show focused on legal issues so that is why I watch it. He seems to try to be objective and he makes sure to have opposing viewpoints from intelligent commentators. But I don’t watch the other shows on the network so I don’t have an opinion on the network as a whole.

When is he on? I'll check it out.

9pm EST Monday to Friday. He’s on vacation this week, so there is a guest host.

I haven't watched it with any regularity to really form an opinion. What I've seen here and there has been fine, if unnoteworthy. Still, I'm glad there's an alternative growing in the current landscape of cable news. Variety is a good thing.

And I should qualify that-- OAN and NewsMax are not "alternatives." They are hardcore ultra-ultra conservative versions of FOX, which is already unwatchable. I don't need to go further out on the fringe and watch 30 minutes there to know that those are even worse.
