I have to say, this is a very good piece, but I take issue with one item: the contention that Reagan is spinning in his grave. The notion that Trump is in pure opposition to the Gipper relieves on several assumptions not supported by data. Sure, Reagan hated the commies and was for free trade, but it’s clear the GOP base isn’t motivated by those things. The former we learned was true only as a motivating factor for Republicans only as far as the Soviets were anti-Christian, not anti-freedom. Case in point, the current Russia. The second it is clear was so lightly adhered to it was easy to abandon. I think that what Reagan brought to the country in contrast to the GOP before him was to centralize a white, Christian-ist moralist country club aesthetic. It is why NRO is so willing to accept Trump. James Baker voted for Trump IN 2020!!!! why? My guess is that in his heart it’s because free trade and robust foreign policy were not as viscerally important as his distain for the brown girl with the nose ring at Starbucks wearing a “they/them” pin. It’s hard for me to believe Ronnie wouldn’t take a similar approach.
Repugnant...yes! Unfortunately, due to those far left , wackadoodle activist's off-putting and sweeping changes, many voters have become 1 issue voters. They will vote for trump because it is certain that he will get rid of people in certain positions or get rid of that Dept. entirely. I am engulfed in one of those "issues" and I get to hear how other parents view the situation.....and lots of them are former Dems. The Dems have made a huge mess of things on the "social" side of policy. Project 2025/Agenda 47 will likely cause my immediate family (and extended family) unemployment, but there are lots of people who don't look at this way as they have been demonized/shut down for far too long.
On Repugnant. Well written and perfectly explained what Trump is.
Well stated. You should just bookmark this and send it as a response to the next person that calls you a MAGA-loving Trump fanboy.
