Yeah, I don’t think Newsom is quite The Guy either. I also get Kerry vibes.
But just to play devils advocate: will it matter in 2028, if Trump fatigue sets in? In 2008, you could have run a ham sandwich against McCain and won - not because the latter was bad, but because the National mood soured on the GOP.
He really does have a natural ease in those settings. His personal talent for politics are of the charts. But his weaknesses in a potential national campaign stands out as well.
I agree his response to the LA situation was great. That being said, I’ve never liked him and he looks to be positioning himself to run against Trump/vance et all
For example, he just backed an internal combustion engine sales ban in California (active in 10 years). That's a contrast to his abundance talk and supposed newfound position as a moderate. Even if it's not really his idea, his name is on it now and Trump is making sure everyone knows it.
Crafty adversary? The guy who picked a losing fight with China, alienated all of America’s allies, and levied tariffs on an island inhabited by Penguins.
Newsom won’t be the nominee. He is too slick and even CA liberals are at best lukewarm about him. He made his name by being on the forefront of social causes important to rich CA liberals but that is not a recipe for success outside of CA. He is not going to have a big domestic win in the form of a housing boom or a high speed rail inauguration before his term is up. The podcast changes nothing.

A good point.
I saw him on one of the late night comedy shows and he was very relaxed and fun. The opposite of scripted and wooden I think that’s very important.

He is slimy and an overt political opportunist.

He is Americas Bibi I guess. You may not love him but he is a survivor 😀
One issue where he is not a chameleon is the second amendment. He is a poster boy for radical control.
